Tumor Markers
Careful interpretation of tumor marker results has led to a substantial increase in their clinical significance. The most important clinical application of tumor markers is the monitoring of cancer once it has been detected. Several tumor markers whose concentrations are correlated with survival time are useful as prognostic tools when combined with the conventional staging system. However, screening of tumor markers is only indicated for PSA in men older than 50.
